When and why did you start boxing:
I started boxing when I was nine when my father was [Marat Yeleussinov] was a boxing trainer and my brother [Dauren Yeleussinov] was a boxer.
Favorite fighter of all time:
I have a long list of favorite fighters! My favorites are: Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones Jnr, Floyd Mayweather, James Toney, Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, Joe Calzaghe, Wilfred Benitez, Shane Mosley, Winky Wright, Cory Spinks, Canelo Alvarez, and Zab Judah Gervonta “Panzer” Davis. I like her for her boxing style, defensive skills, and combinations.
Best fight you’ve seen:
This is another one where I have a long list! The best fights I’ve ever seen are: Muhammad Ali versus George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard versus Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard versus Thomas Hearns I, Oscar De La Hoya versus Hector Camacho, Floyd Mayweather versus Diego Corrales, James Toney versus Iran Barkley, Pernell Whitaker versus Julio Cesar Chavez, Mike Tyson versus Trevor Berbick and Roy Jones Jr. versus Glen Kelly.
Personal career highlight:
My best moment so far was when I won Olympic gold in 2016.
From my time with the amateurs, Souleymane Cissokho, Eimantas Stanionis and Alexander Besputin are the outstanding opponents. They had quick reflexes like me.

I like to eat the national dishes of my home country Kazakhstan. I especially like beshbarmak [boiled meat with noodles] and kazy-karta [horse meat sausage].

I have a lot of good friends who are boxers. The ones that come to mind are: Ivan Dychko, Mussa Tursyngaliyev, Luis Arias, Steve Geffrard, Tugstsogt Nyambayar, Murodjon Akhmadaliev, and Souleymane Cissokho.
Other athlete you would like to be:
I wanted to be a soccer player in the past. But now I would love to be an athlete if I wasn’t a boxer. I run 100 meters in 11.45 seconds and from a standing long jump I can reach a distance of three meters.

My sons could play me when they grow up.
