The retired striker has listed the conditions that must be met before the Belgium international can return to Stamford Bridge
Former Gil Vincente and Rayo Vallecano striker Henry Makinwa has hinted what Chelsea must do before signing Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.
After the striker scored 24 goals in 36 games for the Nerazzurri when they won the Serie A title last season, the striker has been linked with a move to some of Europe’s biggest clubs – including his former side.
Although Inter claimed they would not be interested in selling their prized asset, they could have the 28-year-old return to Stamford Bridge if, after the Blues turned down, they bid on the order of 120 million bid out of 100 € million (£ 85m / $ 118m).
As the 2021/22 season approaches, the reigning European kings are looking for a new striker following Olivier Giroud’s departure to AC Milan.
Given this transfer news, the former striker would prefer Lukaku to stay in Italy where he is “a demigod”.
However, he has given the English side some useful tips if they want to sign him.
“At the moment he’s a demigod at Inter Milan and he’s doing perfectly. I would prefer him to stay behind, ”said the former Abia Warriors and Katsina United manager Gate.
“However, everything depends on [Thomas] Tuchel. He knows Lukaku so well and if he can solve their goal problems he should bet on him.
“Again, it doesn’t always depend on the qualities of the player, but the tactical approach of a coach always determines the kind of players he would like to have on his team.”
“Top clubs in Europe have different styles of playing and whether Lukaku would be bought [for that high amount]’Chelsea have so many factors to consider.
“Is he a team player? Can he interpret all tactical concepts perfectly? Can he play and quickly adapt to the manager’s style?
“All of this determines whether or not he should return to Stamford Bridge. Remember he was on the same team taking [Jose] Mourinho wasn’t fantastic though, while he became a strong attacking force at Inter. “
Lukaku joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in 2011 but was unable to secure a place in the first team.
He was loaned to West Bromwich Albion for a year in 2012 and then went to Everton.
Lukaku then moved permanently to the Toffees and left Chelsea with only 15 competitive games in his name and no goals.
