Jurgen Klopp has indicated that Jordan Henderson could be included in his plans for a Premier League season opener against Norwich, with the Liverpool captain playing for “a few minutes” in a friendly with Osasuna on Monday.

Henderson hopes to play an important role in Klopp’s plans but returned late in pre-season after helping England to the Euro 2020 final and will join the this summer after his 2020-21 season ended due to injury Group recorded.

What was said

Asked by the clubs official website Commenting on his plans for Henderson, Klopp said: “Hendo trained in Liverpool.

“We have a meeting on Saturday, everything is fine and we’ll see if he plays a few minutes or not.

“I haven’t thought about it yet and probably more in the second game, but if someone is worried about choosing the wrong game, I honestly can’t tell which team is A and which team B is.

“We only have good players here and that’s a good thing. Both lineups will give everything, so everything is fine.”

Who caught Klopp’s attention?

Klopp Liverpool 2021

Henderson has been a prominent figure for Liverpool in his 10 years on Merseyside, but it’s a squad game for Liverpool and everyone has a role to play in it.

Some don’t watch as many minutes as they’d like, but Klopp was impressed the preseason with the efforts of Kostas Tsimikas, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino in reminding him of their worth.

The German added after a test win against Bologna on Thursday: “Kostas was really, very good, I have to say. That’s right. It was only 45 minutes, that’s okay, Owen Beck 15 minutes and that’s good too.”

“Taki played well, that’s true – that’s really, really true. Seeing the quality of Shaqiri and all of these things is good.

“When you have the central defenders at the back, playing football, you see Joey [Gomez] with new long balls from left to right to left, a nice little addition. It’s good, we may be able to change the game sooner.

“Even after a long time, not with all the late guys, we have to get used to each other quickly and then be fit for the season. We are not preparing for Norwich, we are preparing “for the whole season so we have to see who is in what situation next week.”
