Kemba Walker Finalizing Buyout with Thunder, Will Signal with Knicks

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Star Guard Kemba Walker is making a contract purchase with Oklahoma City Thunder after it was traded to OKC ahead of the 2021 NBA draft.

Walker will then sign a contract with the New York Knicks as a free agent.

The past three seasons have been a rollercoaster ride for Star Guard Walker, who has risen from the face of the Charlotte Hornets to an important piece of the future of the Boston Celtics to a shipwrecked Celtics in a relatively short time.

Always after the Thunder takeover, it was believed that his time in the Rebuilding franchise would be short-lived due to his age (31 years) and his desire to play for a competitor.

The Knicks, which reached the postseason for the first time in seven seasons thanks to a 41-31 record in 2020-21, are considered one of the league’s up-and-coming teams. That remains the case despite a disappointing first-round performance against the Atlanta Hawks.

Adding a point guard of Walker’s caliber has long been considered a top Knicks priority, and although injuries and role changes have resulted in atypically inferior performance by Kemba, he will play an important role for New York in the future.

The four-time all-star averaged 19.3 points and 4.9 assists per game last season, while shooting 42.0 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from 3-point range.

Over the next two seasons, he was due for $ 73.6 million.
