Keith Thurman: It is Been a Lengthy Time Coming For My Return – I am Again Now!

As previously reported on, former united welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman will return to the ring to take on former super-lightweight world champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios in a 12-round welterweight showdown to compete.

The fight will take place on Saturday, February 5th at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas with a FOX Sports pay-per-view.

Both Thurman and Barrios (26-1, 17 KOs) will try to recover from their first losses in their careers with statement wins.

Thurman returns to the ring after a 30-month absence, the longest of his career.

The last time 33-year-old Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs) stepped into action in July 2019, he lost his WBA world title by dropping a tight 12-round split decision to Manny Pacquaio.

Thurman promises to create fireworks – hoping to get back into the mix for a World Cup chance in the near future.

“My return to the ring has taken a long time and I can’t wait to compete again,” said Thurman.

“In 2022, I’ll be reminding the boxing world that Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman is a fighter to remember. I’m not looking to the past or the future, I’m back now and ready to fight. I dream big and now it is time to make that dream come true. Get ready because I’m working on putting on a pay-per-view show against Mario Barrios on February 5th. It has started and my time is now. ”

Barrios lost his “regular” WBA Super Lightweight Championship when he lost TKO to Gervonta Davis in the 11th round in his last fight on June 26th.
