The 2014/15 PSL footballer described Amakhosi’s new signing as a solid defender who will improve the Soweto giants’ defense

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite says the new signing is Austin Dube in the shape of Orlando Pirates star Innocent Maela.

The lanky defender, who can act as a center-back and left-back, was brought in by National First Division team Richards Bays in the current transfer window from Amakhosi.

Mashamaite, who led the Chiefs to the 2014-15 PSL title, believes the Soweto giants will benefit from a left-footed center-back like Dube at the age of 28.

“Left-footed center-backs are a bit rare in the country and I’ve watched his game at Richards Bay and he’s in the form of Innocent Maela. He can also play left-back and left center-back, ”said Mashamaite Sowetan.

“Very solid. I don’t know how tall he is, but he looks very tall and I think at some point he will play center-back. I think it’s a good commitment to rebuild the team now. They brought a bit of fresh blood mixed with experience in the NFD or the Premiership.

“They linked that with the guys from development structures. It’ll create a permanent situation that they’ll build in. It’s more like building for the future and if they get that right they’ll be hard to beat.” the coming years. “

Maela, national player for Bafana Bafana, is one of the top left-backs at PSL, but was used as a central defender by Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer.

After playing for the now defunct Bidvest Wits, SuperSport United and Chiefs as left-footed center-back, Mashamaite believes that more needs to be done to find talented left-footed center-backs.

“I don’t know what to say about that … It is a fact that left-footed center-backs are rare,” the former Bafana-Bafana international continued.

“I saw the European Championship and I think it was Spain that played with two left-footed center-backs and that was interesting. But in a country like SA we have to struggle with it. If we can work on better scouting, we may get better results. “

The Chiefs have also signed Njabulo Ngcobo from Swallows, who was one of the PSL’s foremost defenders last season and was named defender of the league’s season.

“We will always measure the Chiefs by how many goals they concede. Ultimately, the club have always produced good goalkeepers and good defenders, “concluded Mashamaite.
