The players will wear the new colors during a pre-season game against their city rivals on Sunday
The Kaizer Chiefs from the Premier Soccer League have unveiled new home and away kits for the 2021-22 season ahead of their Carling Black Label Cup game against the Orlando Pirates on Sunday.
Amakhosi’s new shirt is dominated by the traditional gold and black colors, known as the “DNA of the club”.
It also has a black modern design neckline on the classic gold Kaizer Chiefs shirt and is complemented by a black and gray pattern on the side of the shirt.
Black and gold shorts
“The home kit will be worn on the field with both black and gold shorts,” the club announced in a press release.
“The away kit is predominantly black and iron gray with gold accent lines depicting the African continent, connecting us to Africa’s tapestry and cementing our journey on the continent, especially after the memorable trip in the Caf Champions League competition last season.
“The vibrant away kit is completed by black shorts and black socks with a pattern similar to the shirt,” said Jessica Motaung, chiefs marketing director.
“With these two jerseys, we are connecting with our heritage and looking forward to the future. We align our brand and our supporters on the path to success. This is our roadmap to victory! Let’s wear our jerseys with pride, inspired to accomplish.
The new jersey is also intended to send an environmental message against plastics.
“This year, the new jerseys are supported by an environmentally friendly campaign – ‘Plastic has never felt so good,’ the statement said.
“Once again, innovation was key in developing the 2021/22 jersey, which features Nike’s technology that improves ventilation for comfort and speed.
“The kit is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles – it’s made into a lightweight fabric that is breathable yet retains a strong knit structure.
“Nike’s Move To Zero is the company’s path to a carbon and waste-free future.
The Soweto club have also unveiled a new kit for their women’s team and Motaung believes the initiative will make everyone associated with the club happy.
“We are very excited to also be launching an away kit in the women’s and youth kits this season. That will make many of our younger and female fans very happy,” added Motaung.
“It is important that we are all part of the Amakhosi family.”
Players will wear the new colors in Sunday’s Carling Black Label Cup against the Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium.
