Chiellini’s Euro dream
Even though Giorgio Chiellini is now 36 and will turn 37 in less than 2 weeks, he is still one of the best defenders in the world.
The Italian captain has his team at the first major tournament since 2016. Itay failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and the fact that Chiellini won the competition under the leadership of Roberto Mancini is an impressive achievement.
Chiellini took over the captaincy after Gianluigi Buffon retired from the international stage. He fought the defense against the young prodigy Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian sustained an injury against Switzerland that threatened to end his tournament, but returned in the round of 16 and played like a maniac until he beat England on penalties.
