The Bianconeri Women’s account posted a picture of Cecilia Salvai making a gesture that mocked the Asian people
Juventus apologized for posting a racist picture on Twitter.
The Juventus women’s team shared a picture of defender Cecilia Salvai wearing a cone as a hat and slanting her eyes with her fingers, following the harmful long-standing caricatures of people from Asia.
The only caption that accompanied the picture was a face between two hands to reproduce Salvai’s expression.
What was said
The tweet was condemned as racist and eventually deleted before the Bianconeri account posted an apology.
It said: “We sincerely apologize that our tweet, which shouldn’t be controversial or have a racist undertone, may have offended someone.
“Juventus has always been against racism and discrimination.”
What else was said?
The Italian club made no further comments on the picture.
The club’s apology did not satisfy many of their supporters, however, as several reports denied claiming that Salvai’s pose should not have “racial overtones”.
Meanwhile, Salvai’s most recent Instagram post has been flooded with comments encouraging her to make the gesture.
