JuJu Smith-Schuster sends emotional message to followers after season-ending surgical procedure

JuJu Smith-Schuster underwent an operation that will end his 2021 season and possibly his tenure with the Steelers, but he had a heartfelt message to fans.

On Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster left the game with a shoulder injury and never returned. Unfortunately, it has now become clear that he will not return in the 2021 season.

The talented pass catcher, who returned to Steel City on a one-year contract this season after testing the free agent waters, had surgery on Wednesday, confirming he will miss the rest of the year.

After the procedure, however, Smith-Schuster offered fans a clearly heartfelt message, as he was both disappointed with the circumstances and grateful for the fans’ support:

Blessed to have had a successful operation this morning. There’s no other way to say it, but it breaks my heart that I’ll be out for the rest of the season. It kills me to have worked hard all year to help our team on the field and now to cut my season down to five weeks. I will do everything in my power to recover and I will have another full off-season next year to try my best next season. Thank you to the doctors and hospital staff who looked after me, and to the @ Steelers organization that supports me during this difficult time! Thanks also to everyone for the good wishes. I really appreciate all of the love. Back soon.

If JuJu Smith-Schuster returns to the field, will it be with the Steelers?

As mentioned earlier, JuJu Smith-Schuster returned to Pittsburgh on a modest one-year contract after a 2020 pedestrian season by his previous standards. Combined with a clear affinity for the city and the Steelers organization, it seemed like the Wideout was returning to the team for one final drive.

This off-season seems to be the general belief that the Steelers will turn the page in this chapter, possibly walking away from Ben Roethlisberger. This transition could also lead to sales with players like Smith-Schuster.

In October, it’s impossible to say if the former second-round pick will be back in Pittsburgh after this season. But there is a very real chance that he will end up elsewhere when he returns to the grate from that injury.

No matter where he plays, his love for the fans and his clear desire to return and play as soon as he is healthy is evident in his post-surgery message.
