James Rodriguez reportedly ‘not in Benitez’s plans’ for coming season

More and more reports in the European media on Monday suggest that James Rodriguez has no place in the plans of new Everton manager Rafael Benitez.

James back in shape

The Colombian international Rodriguez, of course, only moved to Goodison Park last summer.

After another season of testing on Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid books, battling for season time, the 29-year-old decided to try his hand at the Premier League for the first time.

And the campaign that followed was again largely positive.

While forced to deal with a number of annoying fitness issues, when Rodriguez was fit he easily fitted himself into Everton’s midfield and added the much-needed ruse to the club’s ranks.

In total, the talented South American scored 6 goals and 9 assists in 26 appearances in all competitions.

Rafa made up her mind?

However, Rodriguez’s Everton move, which primarily evolved, only came about due to the persistence of Carlo Ancelotti, who had previously overseen some of the best forms of the Colombian’s career in Madrid.

When the tactician abruptly ended his Goodison stint in early June, however, it came as no surprise when speculation about Rodriguez’s future quickly ensued.

And as described above, a new insight into the situation has emerged in the last 24 hours.

Those Toffees who continue to hope Rodriguez will return to the pitch wearing the club’s colors over the coming season, however, are likely to be disappointed overall.

According to reports from England and Spain, Rafael Benitez has already made a final decision about the future of his new midfielder. The ex-coach of Liverpool and Napoli should not see a place in his squad for Rodriguez in 2021/22.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

“Rodriguez has been informed that he will not appear in Rafa Benitez’s plans this season and that he will be free to leave if the right offer is presented.”
