Ireland will face Zimbabwe in their third T20 international match with five games at Bready Cricket Club Ground on Wednesday. The first two international matches were played at the Clontarf Cricket Club. In the third T20 international match, the action will be relocated to a new stadium.
Zimbabwe took the early lead in the series after winning the first game by 3 runs. They hit first, scoring 117 runs in the first innings. Goalkeeper Chakabva scored 28 balls with 47 runs, including 4 fours and 1 six, the highest score. However, there was little contribution from the other batsmen.
Craig Young and Simi Singh chose two wickets apiece, while Barry McCarthy and Getkate each claimed one wicket. Up until that point, Ireland was expected to win the game with relative ease. However, Zimbabwe did not lose heart and bowled exceptionally well in the second innings.
In the second innings, Ireland started cautiously for the first five overs. Paul Sterling dropped in the sixth over of the inning after making 24 out of 19. Wickets continued to fall thereafter as the Irish batsmen felt guilty about giving up their wickets at crucial stages of the game.
Simi Singh scored 28 unbeaten 22 balls but Ireland missed three runs in the end. For Zimbabwe, Masakadza and Luke Jongwe each chose two wickets. Ryan Burl chose 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs.
Ireland celebrated a brilliant comeback in the second game. Zimbabwe did well, however, with 152 runs in the first innings. The top batsmen were guilty of giving away crucial starts, but Milton Shuma and Ryan Burl ensured the team hit a competitive total after the first innings.
Shuma scored 46 of 27 balls while Ryan Burl collected 37 of 33 balls. Getkate was the bowlers’ choice for Ireland, picking 3 for 20 in 4 overs.
Ireland, in response, chased the total down pretty comfortably thanks to a stellar opening partnership between K O’Brien and Paul Sterling. The former scored 60 runs with 41 balls while Paul Sterling scored 37 with 29 balls. The duo set the tone for the chase and George Dockrell did the rest, later scoring an unbeaten 33 out of 26. Ryan Burl picked 2 for 24 in the second innings, however the other bowlers had a memorable outing.
