TOLEDO, OH – Goalkeeper Billy Christopoulos has reached an agreement with the Toledo Walleye for the 2021-2022 season.
The 27-year-old is returning to the Walleye after a 2019-20 breakout season when he won 23-3-3 with 2.30 goals against the average and a savings rate of 0.932 for Toledo. That year he was named goalkeeper for the ECHL All-Rookie Team and also won the Goalkeeper of the Month award in February of that year. Last season, Christopoulos went 11-5-1 on the Indy Fuel, with 2.29 goals against the average and 0.914 save percentages. He also made his AHL debut during the season by running in five competitions for the Rochester Americans with a 1-1-0 record.
“Billy has proven that he can be an elite goalkeeper at ECHL level. He competes and works to get better every day, ”said Walleye head coach Dan Watson of Christopoulos. “He gained valuable experience last season by playing games in the AHL. We’re delighted to have Billy back in a Walleye jersey where he performed superbly in the 2019-20 season.
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, was with the Air Force Academy from 2015-2019. In 93 games for the Falcons, Christopoulos went 42-31-11 with 2.29 goals against the average and a savings rate of 0.913. During his junior campaign (2017-2018) he appeared in 43 games with the best careers, in which he also had the best careers with 23 wins, 2.06 goals against average and 0.922 save percentages. Christopoulos was named AHA Goalkeeper of the Year for two consecutive years (2017-2019), winning 37 games.
