Frankie Dettori, who drives for the Newmarket Red Team in the Racing League, is currently leading the competition after the first week in Newcastle. Dettori is booked for three rides at Doncaster Racecourse on Thursday evening and if all three win it will pay off very well. The Italian front runner is very picky about his rides these days, so he usually tries very hard when booked for a ride. Let’s take a closer look at the three horses in question below.
Dettori’s first ride is aboard the Robert Cowell Runner Autumn flight in the 5f sprint. The dandy man gelding won a pair of handicaps at the All-Weather Chelmsford earlier this season. He has since suffered a defeat, finishing two runners-up in his last two starts at Catterick and Yarmouth. Frankie could bring more improvements.
Dettori will wait a little before setting off on his second ride of the night. He will ride the one trained by John & Thady Gosden Sir Edward Elgar who has failed to set the world on fire since his win at Lingfield in January. The No Nay Never colt still rode easily and was in top hands, so it would be silly to rule out a massive run.
Again he rides for his boss, this time Dettori will ride Pitcher’s Point in the Newmarket red colors. The US-bred runner won a pair of handicaps over this distance in the all-weather last year but got stuck. However, the four-year-old is not practical and is trained by a masterful court.
