Ghanaians have not held back on responding to a perceived condescending statement after the 4×100 relay on Thursday at the Tokyo Olympics
Ghana’s sports fans celebrated Asamoah Gyan on social media as they watched the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
This was after Ghana beat the United States to fifth in the 4x100m relay in Japan’s Heat 2.
In a race in which China (last winner), Germany, Canada, Denmark and Turkey also took part in the early hours of Thursday morning, Ghana set a new national record with 38.08 seconds and came in fifth.
Ghana took a place in the final on Friday while the Americans missed out on sixth place.
Disappointed with the result, the American media criticized their team for the defeat against Ghana.
Superior to the United States in football, Ghana, which has won two out of three World Cup games between the two teams, including a famous Gyan-inspired quarter-final win in 2010, has fans ready to point it out.
Other fans took the opportunity to celebrate the former Sunderland and Udinese striker who is the Black Stars all-time top scorer.
