Inspired by the movie, the Yankees and White Sox will wear special MLB uniforms for the Field of Dreams Game presented by Geico next Thursday – and that’s just one highlight of the game’s unique twists and turns in Dyersville, Iowa.
New York and Chicago will each wear their own uniforms, inspired by teams who played in the early 20th century as they played the first major league game in Iowa.
The jerseys of the Yankees are gray with “New York” in navy blue lettering in an arch across the chest, but in a more restrained form and without the typical white outline. There is also no trim on the sleeves of the jerseys. New York hats will have a loosely knit version of the team’s usual interlocking “NY”.
The White Sox jerseys are white with navy blue pinstripes and an eye-catching vintage SOX monogram on the left chest – a large letter S with O and X in the top and bottom loops.
Chicago’s caps for the game will match the jerseys: plain white with navy blue pinstripes and no logo. For punch training they wear a different version of the cap with the “SOX” monogram.
There will be many more references to Field of Dreams in the game. Dyersville Ballpark pays tribute to Old Comiskey Park with the design of its bullpens behind the midfield wall, its manual scoreboard in the right field, and a corn maze behind the right field fence that is made with chain-linkage around the corn behind and has vertical posts that stretch out actually reside in the corn.
