Devon Alexander (27-6-1) can’t wait to step into the ring on Saturday night. Opposite him is the disturbed Lucas Santamaria (11-2-1). The fight will be part of a Premier Boxing Champion on FOX Triple Headers.
34-year-old Alexander has been out of the ring for over 2 years but says he feels refreshed. He rose to welterweight in 2012 and said he still has no problems reaching the weight.
“I feel damn good. You already know that cutting is the worst part of boxing, ”Alexander said with a laugh. “But it wasn’t bad. I still make it easy for myself. I’m about to have fun in the ring. “
There has been a lot of talk about Alexander winning 1-4-1 in his last 6 fights, but he insists this time will be different.
He knows that this fight means to him or dies and expects a dominant performance.
His previous problems with prescription drug addiction are well documented, but with these problems in the past, he believes he is still on the verge of peak.
“I’m just in a different place and I’m happy. That’s the most important. When I’m happy, I’m at my best mentally and physically, ”Alexander told BoxingScene.com.
There have also been talks lately of a potential southpaw showdown that will see Alexander and former multi-division champion Robert Guerrero compete against each other.
Guerrero returns to the ring against Victor Ortiz on August 21. If Guerrero emerges victorious, Alexander will want to face him next.
“I definitely want Guerrero. Let’s get through these fights, then we can talk about this fight, ”said Alexander.
