Defenseman Luke McInnis returns for sophomore season in Orlando

ORLANDO, FLA – Orlando Solar Bears announced that the club has signed a standard ECHL player contract with defenseman Luke McInnis for the 2021-22 season.

The 23-year-old McInnis finished his professional hockey rookie season with the Solar Bears during the 2020-21 season, scoring four points (1 goal-3 assists) and 51 penalty minutes in 46 games. The only goal of the season for the Blueliner was the winner of the 3-0 win against Florida on March 5th. McInnis’ 51 penalty minutes put him third on the team and fifth among all ECHL rookie defenders, while finishing 10th in the league under the rearguards of the first year in his 46 games.

Before turning pro, the Hingham, Massachusetts native played college hockey for Boston College. In 132 career games for the Eagles program, McInnis scored a total of 27 points (5 goals – 22 assists) and 142 penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-11, 174-pound defender also played one season of junior hockey for the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League in 2015-16, earning 28 points (6 goals – 22 assists) and 68 penalty minutes in 58 games USHL All-Rookie Second Team Honors. McInnis ran in the USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in 2015 and received the game’s MVP award.

The Solar Bears will open their 2021-22 season on Saturday, October 23rd when they host the Atlanta Gladiators at the Amway Center in Orlando.
