Conor McGregor has ‘misplaced contact’ together with his roots, says UFC 265 fighter

Johnny Munhoz takes inspiration from Conor McGregor’s rise to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) ladder, but even the UFC 265 fighter has had concerns about McGregor’s stance lately.

Munhoz (10-1) will fight Jamey Simmons (7-3) at UFC 265, which will take place on Saturday August 7th at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX via ESPN + Pay-per-View (PPV). A big McGregor fan, Munhoz admits that “The Notorious” crosses a line with recent comments directed at the families of Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“I really liked his coming, the way he came through the sport. For me, it was probably one of the most strategic and smartest ways to climb the ranks to get the belt and make tons of money. I think he did it wisely. I don’t think you can hate that. He came out of nowhere. He was a plumber. His girlfriend supported him. He got to the UFC, started knocking out people and running his mouth. I really respected that about him. His philosophy on the law of attraction, ”Munhoz told MMAMania.com. “But where he is now, I’ve definitely lost my respect for him. I think he lost touch with how he got there. I have the feeling that as a fighter you can’t lose touch with what brought you there. You have to follow the same principles that got you there. It keeps you hungry. People can say, “What do you know? You have a fight in the UFC. McGregor will crush you. ‘ You’ll always get haters like that, but that’s exactly what I see.

“I respect his coming. I wish he could come back to that. His last fight, I would be lying if I said I don’t lose respect for him. This is not the McGregor I like to see, ”Munhoz continues. “There is a limit to when you do that. You should keep family members away from it. It’s just between you and another man or woman in that cage. For me it’s a free game if you want to beat them up and lick their mouths. But I think you should let other people out there. ”

When asked about his upcoming fight, like a young McGregor, Munhoz doesn’t see his opponent’s chances.

“My biggest advantage is that I’m an all-round fighter. I feel better in every area, ”he says. “I think I mix it up well. Hitting, wrestling, jiu-jitsu … For him, its advantage is difficult to say. I respect him. He’s with the UFC. You have to respect everyone in there. I respect all of my opponents, I just know that I’m the better fighter and I’ll show everyone why. I think his biggest asset is probably his hair, his afro. He’s got a pretty good nickname, I’ll give him that. ”

UFC 265 is led by Derrick Lewis (No. 2) against Ciryl Gane (No. 3) in a UFC Interim Heavyweight Title bout. Other notable fights on the map include the rated bantam weights Aldo versus Munhoz co-headlined, as well as Chiesa versus Luque, Tecia Torres versus Angela Hill, and Song Yadong versus Casey Kenney.
