Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield says it is ‘completely’ doable he might play Sunday vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

BEREA, Ohio – Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield said it was “absolutely” possible that he could return against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday after missing Cleveland’s last game with a left shoulder injury.

Mayfield added that the torn labrum along with the tuberculosis fracture in his non-throwing shoulder already felt better after playing the Denver Broncos last Thursday and that he hopes to make more progress this week in time for that Steelers.

“It’s definitely [helped]. A noticeable difference in range of motion and strength, “Mayfield said before Wednesday’s workout about the time he was off.” I’m trying to regain that strength and get as close to 100 percent as possible. But when that isn’t the case, we trust the guys we have out there. “

Mayfield had played through the labral injury since week 2. But on October 17, against Arizona, he worsened the injury and suffered the break. Mayfield trained last week and vowed to play against Denver but was ultimately disfellowshipped. Backup Case Keenum started in his place when the Browns won 17:14.

Mayfield, who had never missed an NFL start with an injury, admitted Wednesday that the sore shoulder was just too bad to come back in the short week.

“I said it last week, if I feel like I won’t be able to hit 100 percent and help this team – if I’m in a situation where I’m going to harm the team – then I won’t go, “he said.

Keeping inflammation down so he can regain freedom of movement and strength, Mayfield added, will be key to Sunday’s return.

“I try to take it every day,” he said. “I think you know how I feel. I want to play outside. “
