Chicharito, Vela and Nani joined by kids Cowell and Pepi to headline MLS All-Star roster for conflict with Liga MX

The veteran trio will be joined by young stars such as Ricardo Pepi, Cade Cowell and Tajon Buchanan for the upcoming game

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, Carlos Vela and Nani are among the 28 players named to the MLS squad for the upcoming All-Star Game.

The best of the MLS will compete against a League MX All-Stars team at the Banc of California in Los Angeles on August 25, in the first iteration of a new format for the All-Star game.

The squad also includes the US men’s gold cup stars Miles Robinson, Matt Turner, Cristian Roldan, Walker Zimmerman and James Sands, as well as the young stars of FC Dallas’ Ricardo Pepi and San Jose Earthquakes striker Cade Cowell.

GOALKEEPER: Pedro Gallese (Orlando City), Matt Turner (New England Revolution)

DEFENDERS: Julian Araujo (LA Galaxy), Yeimar Gomez Andrade (Seattle Sounders), Jesus Murrillo (LAFC), Nouhou Tolo (Seattle Sounders), Miles Robinson (Atlanta United), Alex Roldan (Seattle Sounders), James Sands (NYCFC), Kai Wagner (Philadelphia Union), Walker Zimmerman (Nashville SC)

A closer look

A total of 15 clubs and 14 countries make up the MLS roster, with the Seattle Sounders, who lead the Western Conference, making the most of them with six, including brothers Cristian and Alex Roldan.

Of the 28 players, 24 are all-stars for the first time, with Vela, Nani, Zimmerman and Diego Rossi being the only players with experience in the game.

The roster was compiled through a combination of fan, player and media voting that included 13 players plus 13 additional selections from All-Star Head Coach Bob Bradley.

The remaining two picks were made by MLS commissioner Don Garber, who picked rising star Tajon Buchanan of Cowell and New England Revolution.
