Chelsea transfer for Lukaku sees Inter ultras subject warning to membership amid switch frustrations

The Belgian international was a star for the Serie A outfit last season but could leave this summer

Romelu Lukaku’s move from Inter to Chelsea has led the Nerazzurri’s ultras to warn the club about their transfer plans.

The Belgian international spearheaded the Serie A team’s first Scudetto for a decade last season but his future has been bleak amid financial pressures and turmoil in the boardroom.

With title-winning coach Antonio Conte already gone, Inter could potentially take on more big names to cut costs, but members of the club’s Curva Nord fan base have spoken out against such a call.

What was said

In the team’s headquarters in Milan, the ultras unfolded a banner with the words: “To the club, watch out … Promises must be kept.”

Then they added another statement which said, “Any type of transfer operation must now go ahead as agreed to improve the cadre. Bringing in cash without a reasonable investment is not acceptable. That goes for every player.

“We’re not going to just lie down and be treated like fools by anyone, and we’re going to act based on what we were told at the end of the season. We believe that nothing more needs to be said at the moment. “

What did Tuchel say about Chelsea’s interest in Lukaku?

While Chelsea’s pre-season draw spoke of Tottenham, Thomas Tuchel was reluctant to talk about Lukaku as speculation mounts.

“I’m not going to talk about players who are not on my squad.” said the German at his press conference.

“He’s a fantastic player, but he’s an Inter player and I won’t be talking about him in this situation.”

The bigger picture

Talk of a return to the Premier League for Lukaku – the club where he started his English career – would give the striker another chance to prove his critics wrong after being classified as subpar at Manchester United.

After rediscovering his best form at Inter, he would give the blues a terrifying boost as they look to back up their Champions League success from last season with further glory under Tuchel this season.

Chelsea start their Super Cup against Villarreal in less than a week before starting their new Premier League season against Crystal Palace on August 14th.
