Chelsea boss Tuchel refuses to be drawn on Lukaku hyperlinks as Inter striker open to maneuver

A blues switch for the Belgian is inevitable, but the manager dodged questions about an official application

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has said “a lot of players want to join in” but that he will not be drawn on reports that Romelu Lukaku could move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

gate recently reported that the Blues are preparing a new offer for the Inter forward after their original offer was rejected. Lukaku is now ready to return to the club.

However, Tuchel holds his cards close to his chest.

What was said

Speaking to reporters at a press conference following Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham, Tuchel told reporters: “I’m not going to talk about players who are not on my squad. He’s a fantastic player, but he’s an Inter player and I’m not going to talk about him in this situation.

“You can imagine a lot of players wanting to come and join, but we’re not going to talk about that.

“The board doesn’t offer players, that’s not how it works. We talk to the board about players, we have our own opinions and in the end we target players who we think could make our squad strong, which is quite a challenge.

“There are some players that we think can be a good target and an improvement in our squad. I won’t comment on names as I don’t like other coaches talking about my players. Hopefully you understand. “

Does Chelsea need a new striker?

Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Kai Havertz are all in ninth place under Tuchel, but none is considered a goalkeeper through and through who can play with his back to the goal.

Indeed, Tuchel admitted this and added: “With the departure of Olivier Giroud [to AC Milan], we could use a player with his back to the goal and that means we can add that straightforward style of play. It’s the kind of profile we don’t have in the squad that can be useful.

“But not at any price and don’t panic. Whatever happens, we will be competitive and we will trust our guys. We have young players in the offensive part of the game who we ask for improvements. We are relaxed and at the same time aware of our situation. “

Could a deal be struck for Lukaku?

Given Inter’s tough financial position, even after the big Achraf Hakimi sale, Goal understands that Chelsea are confident a € 130m (£ 111m) bid will be enough to get the Nerazzurri to sell.

For his part, Lukaku himself recently told the Inter hierarchy that he was ready to return to Stamford Bridge if a fee can be agreed between the clubs.
