The Athletic and Stadium’s Per Shams Charania, the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans have signed a sign-and-trade for former second overall winner Lonzo Ball, who agreed to a four-year $ 85 million deal with the Bulls at the start of the game has agency.
As part of the deal, Chicago will send seasoned guards Tomas Satoransky and Garrett Temple to New Orleans who will be liaising with a number of point guards to create a different dynamic on the position.
Bulls and Ball’s mutual interest is not surprising as previous reports have linked the two parties.
Ball, a longtime defender with a high basketball IQ and sense of passing, offers an element Chicago has been missing with offensive-minded Zach LaVine. The skills of the professional in the fourth year as a perimeter defender and offensive initiator not only complement LaVine, but also relieve him of the most demanding defensive tasks.
In 2020-21, Ball averaged 14.8 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 37.8 percent from 3-point range.
