During a team briefing on Tuesday, Dolphins trainer Brian Flores spoke about the latest reports linking Miami to a potential deal for Deshaun Watson, and in a brief but poignant message, told his players and staff that Tua Tagovailoa was “our quarterback “Is, sources told ESPN.
Flores was not overly broad in his comments and did not go into detail with the team as it concerns the background of his involvement in conversations with the Texans for Watson.
Instead, less than two weeks into the season, Flores’ comments tended to signal that Tagovailoa would prove its worth as a starter for the Dolphins.
Separately, another team source said owner Steve Ross had shown no interest in trading with Watson, contrary to other reports Tuesday.
Ross, the source said, supported Tagovailoa – and would leave Flores and General Manager Chris Grier to evaluate the quarterback.
The Dolphins begin the New England Patriots season on September 12th.
