Eriksen collapse

This summer’s European Championship was one of the best tournaments in football history. It included a lot of shocks, great goals and amazing performances.

It concluded with a final between Italy, which won its first major title since 2006, and England, which reached its first final since 1966.

However, there was one incident during the tournament that overshadowed much of the excitement associated with the competition.

During the game between Denmark and Finland, the Danish talisman Christian Eriksen collapsed and had to save his life after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The incident turned into a global news story with cameras focused on distraught fans in the ground, the worried players, and even the player’s family members in a very desperate situation.

Braithwaite discusses the incident

One of the players on the pitch was Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite.

The former Middlesbrough man described the situation and the emotions involved.

“What was thought to be the biggest sporting event in Danish history turned out to be a nightmare. What happened that night shocked a lot of people. ” said the striker.

“There was a moment when I looked at (Eriksen) and he was gone.

“When you look at a corpse where the person is dead, you have no doubt. You know right away. I have seen that.

“I felt like it was the only thing I could do right now. Turn to God.

“We all had doctors working on it and this picture is something I don’t want anyone to see.”

Eriksen left the field conscious and later posted a picture on his Instagram page showing him in recovery to calm fans’ nerves.

It was a moment that will long be remembered by the millions who have seen it around the world, and it brings the dangers involved with the sport into focus.
