Barcelona dealt double blow forward of subsequent recreation as La Blaugrana’s most important situation highlighted as soon as once more vs Sevilla

Seville versus Barcelona

FC Barcelona had to travel to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to meet Seville on Tuesday evening.

Xavi Hernandez’s side entered the game after finally ending their weak form with a win over Elche.

It wasn’t a spectacular win, but it did bring La Blaugrana much closer to the top 4 ahead of Tuesday’s game, just three points off 4that Place Rayo Vallecano, against whom they had a game under control.

However, Barca faced a Seville side who are 2 seatednd in La Liga and have the best defensive record in La Liga this season.

As a result, Xavi and Co. undoubtedly expected a difficult game tonight.

Barcelona struck one-two

And it would actually be Sevilla who took the lead in the draw. The home side took the lead in the 32nd minute when Papu Gomez took a shot home from a corner kick.

However, Barcelona struck back with their own corner goal in the first half of stoppage time, with Ronald Araujo heading home with a header after a cross from Ousmane Dembele.

Then the Catalan team got another boost when Jules Kounde saw the red card in the 64th minute:

Despite spending more than half an hour with 10 men, Barcelona failed to score a second goal and had to settle for one point – a result that Xavi will no doubt disappoint and which also highlights Barca’s lack of upward firepower.

Youngster Feran Jutgla was the man who was supposed to fill in the number 9 against Sevilla but he did little and was eventually replaced by Nicol Gonzalez. This resulted in Xavi trying all Gavi, an out-of-shape Luuk de Jong and even Gerard Pique at the helm to find a winner late in the game.

But again, despite their obsession, Barcelona lacked the presence in the penalty area that is necessary to score enough goals.

Not only did Barcelona take three points against 10 men and again struggled with their striking position, but they also suffered a double personal blow before their clash with Mallorca on Sunday 2nd January.

Gavi and Sergio Busequets both received their fifth yellow card of the La Liga season against Sevilla, meaning they are now suspended for their club’s next league game.
