Bandari 2-1 Tusker FC: Dockers come from behind to get maximum points against Brewers

The attacks led by Robert Matano conceded twice in the second half and fell back to second place in the league

Tusker FC surrendered the top spot in the FKF Premier League to KCB after losing 2-1 to Bandari at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa on Wednesday.

The Brewers took the lead after Rodgers converted Aloro from a set piece before Iddi Hassan replied the same way for the hosts and substitute John Mwita scored the winning goal.

Both teams wanted to return to winning ways after losing their previous outings as Bandari lost 4-1 to Nzoia Sugar while the Brewers lost to Nairobi City Stars with a single goal.

It was the guests who started the game high and it took them three minutes to get their first corner. However, Danson Namasaka saved the hosts with his clearing header.

The protégés led by Robert Matano had to make a change in the eighth minute because Boniface Muchiri, who returned to the team with the emerging stars after the Cecafa U23 Cup, was involved in a collision.

Henry Meja, who was also part of the Kenya team in Ethiopia, took his place on the team.

Bandari stepped up, pushing for an opener, with Hassan Abdallah, Umar Kasumba and William Wadri leading the attack. However, they could not find the way to the Tusker overseer.

Tusker had his chances too, but Luke Namanda, Kevin Okoth and Meja didn’t take advantage of the opportunities presented to them.

After all, it was the eleven-time champions who scored in the 38th minute when the Dockers conceded a free kick in the danger zone, Aloro took it and managed to hit the target.

Meja would have doubled the lead shortly afterwards, but could not beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one.

After the half-time break, the hosts returned stronger and hoped for a quick equalization in order to destabilize the Nairobi nationals. John Mwita and Collins Agade were introduced in place of Denis Magige and Namasaka.

Mwita had an effect almost immediately when he remained unmarked in the danger zone, but his stabbing attempt was parried by the Tusker goalkeeper for a barren corner.

The renewed energy of the hosts paid off in the 56th minute when the Brewers gave away a set piece just outside the danger zone. Hassan stepped forward and led the ball into the net to bring the teams to eye level.

In the 75th minute, the Dockers scored their second goal; Mwita used the confusion in the Tusker defense to score the winning goal.

KCB are at the top of the league with 57 points after beating Western Stima 2-0.
