Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga outlines what made him unhappy about his Emirates debut

Arsenal sign Lokonga

Arsenal completed their second summer window signing on July 19.

The Gunners had already secured the services of Benfica’s Nuno Tavares, with the 21-year-old expected to support left-back Kieran Tierney.

And Tavares was supported in north London by former Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

On the back of his signing, Lokonga made his debut for the Gunners in a pre-season friendly in which Arsenal beat the championship team Millwall 4-1.

Lokonga talks Emirates debut

Then, last weekend, Lokonga would make his first appearance at Arsenal’s home stadium, the Emirates.

The Gunners would face Chelsea in a pre-season duel on Sunday. Both teams were still missing a few players, but there was still a lot of quality to be seen in the 90 minutes.

But in the end, even though Joe Willock seemed to score a late equalizer just so the officials couldn’t give it, Arsenal would, thanks to hits from Kai Havertz and Tammy Abraham, the Granit Xhakas 69NS-Minutes of effort.

Lokonga came on as a substitute in the second half and was substituted on for the last 20 minutes. After the game, the Belgian discussed his Emirates debut and said it was a bit sad because Arsenal didn’t take the three points. (Of course you can’t get points in a friendly match, but he clearly left that his team didn’t win).

“It was really good, a bit sad because we didn’t get the three points.

“But yes, my first time in the Emirates, I think it’s a good thing for me, a good start. So I hope the future will be better.

“If I have to talk about the team, we did a really good performance, but we gave the ball away and then they hit.

“But yeah, next time we have to be careful because I think we can avoid that kind of goal.”
