Amid Joe Willock standstill, Newcastle flip attentions to Aaron Ramsey

Speculation from European media on Monday suggested that Newcastle United may have identified an alternative target for Arsenal star Joe Willock.

Gunners starlet asked

Midfielder Willock naturally spent the second half of last season playing his craft at St. James’ Park after battling for game time under Mikel Arteta’s supervision in the Emirates.

And the 21-year-old quickly reminded viewers of his undeniable talents, scoring an impressive 8 goals in 14 Premier League games for the Magpies.

In turn, it has since come as little surprise that speculation has risen that those in power on Tyneside are targeting a permanent deal for Willock.

So far, however, the magpies have not reached Arsenal’s understandably substantial price tag.

Regarding his side’s friendship loss to Chelsea on Sunday, with Willock unlucky not to receive a perfectly legitimate equalizer, Mikel Arteta was drawn by the future of both the midfielder and the rest of the Gunners’ broadcast stars.

And the Spaniard expressly refused to rule out an exit from Willock, further explaining:

‘I don’t know (if they’re going).’

“I will coach and train them and I will respect and mentor everyone because they are our players.”

“Hopefully this is where they can have their opinion and prepare here because they are Arsenal players and our job is to do them as well as we can.”

While Mikel Arteta provides Joe Willock's future update, Newcastle provides Aaron Ramsey investigations

However, as noted above, despite Arteta’s comments, Newcastle appear willing to look elsewhere in the club’s search for midfield reinforcements if the latest rumors spread across the continent on Monday are anything.

The information comes from Goal’s trusted Romeo Agresti, who confirms that Steve Bruce and Co. have begun exploring a deal for Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey.

Ramsey, who of course used to be with Arsenal himself, has had an overall disappointing time in Italy so far, with Juve assuming he will be open to selling the Welshman this summer.

The hierarchy in St. James’ Park, on the other hand, has made initial contacts with their colleagues in the Allianz Stadium.

And although the discussions so far have proven to be “very informal”, the magpies seem poised to increase their interest in the coming weeks.
