The defender has tested positive for Covid-19 along with Karim Benzema and David Alaba to further disrupt Madrid’s pre-season preparations
Real Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola has returned a positive test for coronavirus, the club confirmed on Saturday.
The league’s pre-season preparations have been disrupted by the virus as some of the club’s first-team players have been forced into isolation after testing positive.
And Odriozola is the last to drop out of training as Madrid face AC Milan in a friendly on August 8.
“Real Madrid can announce that our player Odriozola has had a positive result on Covid-19,” said Madrid in a brief statement posted on their official website on Saturday.
Benzema & Alaba also tested positive
Odriozola isn’t the only Madrid player to test positive for Covid-19 this summer.
In July, both Karim Benzema and new signing David Alaba tested positive after returning to training after Euro 2020.
In fact, neither player participated in Madrid’s friendly defeat by Rangers on July 25th.
When will Madrid be back in action?
Carlo Ancelotti’s men complete their preparation plan on August 8th with a clash against former Italian Milan in Austria.
The following week they will begin their league campaign after finishing second behind city rivals Atletico in the 2020-21 season as they face Alaves on August 14th.
They are also on the road in their two subsequent games against Levante and Real Betis.
Madrid’s first home game won’t take place until September 12th against Celta Vigo, where they hope to return to the Santiago Bernabeu after their home games at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano last season.
