Abraham Toro homers as Mariners transfer to 6-0 vs. Rays

NS. PETERSBURG – One week. There is hardly enough time for a general conclusion, but you can leave a lasting first impression. That’s what Abraham Toro did to the Mariners.

Toro, acquired by Astros on July 27, continued to impress Tuesday night as it catalyzed the Mariners’ 4-2 win over the Rays at Tropicana Field. Toro scored a tiebreak home run to lead the fourth inning, then single, and scored an insurance run in the sixth inning.

That helped the Mariners continue their dominance against the Rays. They have won six straight wins against the defending champions of the American League this season and have been 16-6 against them at Tropicana Field since 2014.

Mariners left-handed Yusei Kikuchi allowed two runs, one deserved, in six innings and didn’t need much support. Toro delivered more than enough.

Toro has bottomed out with the Mariners in all seven of its games. He beats .440 (11-for-25) with eight runs scored, three home runs, five RBIs, a .520 on-base percentage, a .920 slugging percentage, and a 1,440 OPS.
