With an additional opportunity through the Hall of Fame Game, these three Pittsburgh Steelers are fighting for their jobs this preseason.
The NFL preseason has been reduced to three games for most teams this year. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys will play the Hall of Fame Game Thursday night, so players on those two teams who are on the roster will have an extra opportunity to prove themselves worthy under the playing conditions.
Put simply, there won’t be many important or recognizable steelers or cowboys in the field on Thursday night. Those who play aren’t going to gamble a lot, so it’s going to be mostly a showcase of names nobody needs to remember in the second quarter. But, as already mentioned, there is an opportunity with this showcase.
With that in mind, these three Steelers competing for their jobs better take advantage of the opportunity that begins Thursday night.
3 Pittsburgh Steelers battling for jobs this preseason
TJ Watt’s absence as he awaits a contract extension will create opportunities for others until further notice (not just Thursday night). Marsh played eight games for three teams (Colts, Steelers, Jaguars) last season and was mostly a special teamer during his career with 14 career bags.
The Steelers took a flyer over Quincy Roche in the sixth round of the draft, adding some perks (and competition) to their edge-rusher mix. Marsh shouldn’t be missing out on opportunities to show what he can do as a pass rusher all preseason, and he’s entering the Hall of Fame game to come from the wrong side of the squad bubble.
